iDigit: The Ultimate Pattern Digitizing System for Apparel Industry

Re-fashioning the digitizing process since 2013
Whether you are a freelance pattern cutter or a garment technologist in a busy design studio, whether designing simple shirts, bridal dresses or haut-couture you know the importance of speed, precision and convenience when it’s about digitizing patterns.
Fashion industry was in fact the first domain where iDigit was introduced and it’s always been in our focus ever since and for that reason, iDigit has many answers to common problems faced within the digitizing process.
Here is how iDigit provides solutions to these common problems:
Space
In a typical design room there can be many pattern hangers with hundreds or even thousands of patterns claiming valuable space and cluttering the workspace. Not to mention a large, bulky old fashion digitizing table, and probably an older decommissioned one that doesn’t work and can’t be repaired any more.

iDigit makes it possible to reclaim this space by eliminating reliance on these physical patterns (spot and cross paper, card, fabric) as once they’re digitised in iDigit they will be part of your digital pattern archive that comprises of vectorized (digitized) patterns and their picture. This literally allows you to free up valuable cubic meters in your workspace by squeezing them into megabytes in your hard drive or the cloud. Also, as iDigit’s compact board is typically mounted on the wall it doesn’t take up any space on the floor.
Speed
One of the essential criteria we keep in mind since iDigit’s initial conception is speed, as this directly translates into time-efficiency which frees up time for the operator that can be used for other creative tasks.

Not only the actual digitization process itself takes much less time than other methods, even the preparation phase is more convenient in iDigit, as the patterns are placed on the board with magnets instead of sticky masking tape. Once the patterns are placed, a picture is taken and opened in iDigit, then the magic happens in only a few seconds. iDigit detects the pattern outlines, their notches, cut-outs and even drill holes and well marked internal lines. The automatic smoothing function allows digitizing fringed material such as fabric or calico as clean as a paper or card.

Once the model is digitized in iDigit, you don’t need to keep the physical patterns in front of your screen as a visual reference for controls, amendments and additions, as the picture that you open in iDigit will also serve as your visual reference. What’s more, If you need let’s say to add annotations, seam allowance, a dart or pocket to a pattern you can do these and much more inside iDigit. As the picture you’d be working on is automatically calibrated by iDigit, you can make all these adjustments without having to make any measurements.

Compatibility
iDigit can exchange data with all CAD software, thanks to the many CAD/CAM formats it can export, including Aama Dxf, General Dxf, Svg, HPGL and PDF. This ensures iDigit will seamlessly integrate into your existing CAD environment, including your grading and marker making (nesting) programs and machinery such as plotters and cutters. You can even copy patterns into clipboard in iDigit, and directly paste them into Adobe Illustrator.
Maintenance
iDigit’s only digital component is the camera or mobile phone that it’s used with. These are sometimes provided by us as part of the package and sometimes users prefer using their own camera or smartphone. In either case, these devices are not any special types and it’s quite easy to find them in the market should they need replacement, unlike other types of digitizers which might require costly spare parts (such as cursor or mainboard in the case of classical digitizing table and an industrial scanner in some other types) that must be obtained through the vendor. In the event of computer failure or replacement, you can simply reinstall iDigit on another computer and regain access to your data that you saved in the cloud.

If you relocated or rearrange your workspace, you don’t need to call in field service or technical support as iDigit doesn’t require calibration. You can simply relocate the board just like relocating your whiteboard or notice board on the wall. This means you can resume your work without downtime or unexpected service costs.
